NICAS Coaching Sessions

From September 6th, we're delighted to be offering awards through the NICAS scheme - National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes - alongside our Academy and Rock Stars classes.

NICAS Bouldering is a UK-wide scheme designed to introduce participants to bouldering through a structured programme. This scheme covers techniques, movement skills, and problem-solving skills specific to bouldering across 5 different levels. NICAS bouldering provides a safe, fun introduction to bouldering indoors and helps learners to develop climbing movement skills and build their confidence.

Our NICAS sessions differ from our academies as they are assessed throughout and participants record their progress in their own NICAS logbook, giving a clear roadmap to track their climbing achievements. Each Level has its own set of learning objectives and requirements and once met a NICAS certificate is awarded.

Initially we will be running Levels 1-3

• Level 1 New Boulderer - Aimed at introducing people to bouldering, including basic balance and movement skills, warm ups and warm downs, bouldering lingo and how to boulder safely. 
• Level 2 Foundation Boulderer - Level 2 looks at bouldering equipment, how to read a route, and grading systems, while continuing safe behaviour and further developing movement techniques. 
• Level 3 Competent Boulderer - This level corresponds to most bouldering gyms’ membership standards, and aims to ensure learners gain the knowledge and skills to boulder safely and responsibly at any bouldering facility. It explores spotting, risk management, hold types and advanced movement techniques.
